Adaptive reuse of a 45,000 sf Civil War era shipbuilding warehouse for an advanced manufacturing facility and headquarters. The design approach leaves the shell of the long narrow building largely intact by inserting approximately 18,000 sf of stacked, enclosed yet transparent cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glass “pods” on two floors with double-height public spaces nestled in between. Jeffrey Beane was the project manager and lead engineer for all phases of design and construction.*
